How does it work?

The Ravi cooling process works by placing the unit in your freezer for at least 6 hours. When you’re ready for a drink, take it from your freezer and fit it onto the neck of the bottle of your chosen beverage, be it red wine, white wine or spirits. You then tilt the bottle over your glass while covering and uncovering your thumb over the air valve as you pour which allows you to control how fast the liquid will flow through and therefore determining how cool the liquid will be.

The instant cooling is achieved by freezing the internal stainless steel tube which is constructed from the same material that is used in wine fermentation tanks. This material is used as it is proven to not affect or change the taste and to maintain the characteristics of the wine so you can enjoy it exactly how the winemakers intended. The external plastic cover then works as a thermos to keep the internal tube frozen for as long as possible.

What the Ravi will do for you?

The Ravi Instant Wine Chiller was designed to take a wine from room temperature to a wine cellar temperature which would be between 54F to 64F (12C to 18C) and will keep cooling your drinks for approximately 90 minutes once out of the freezer.

For red wine we suggest pouring the first glass quickly through the unit as it will be quite cold at the beginning. As the liquid slowly warms the unit you may then use the air valve to slow down the flow to get a consistent temperature for the next glasses. The Ravi will chill an entire bottle of red wine each time you use it.

For white wine it works best on wine that has been previously chilled and has perhaps been sitting on the dining table or bench for a while or perhaps you have taken a bottle of white with you on a picnic in a cooler but has become a bit warm to drink. From our experience the Ravi Wine Chiller will only chill a few glasses of white wine as you need to hold the liquid in the unit for longer to ensure optimal drinking temperature.

What else can it do?

The Ravi Wine Chiller will also chill your favourite spirits so you may have a glass of whiskey, scotch or vodka without having to dilute your beverage with ice if desired and using the Ravi on your dessert wines and ports really brings forward the rich fruit flavours and enhances the drinking experience.

Easy to assemble and easy to clean

Full instructions for use are provided and rinsing through with water is all the cleaning required.

All in all this is handy little device as long as it is used correctly and can make a great gift for someone into their wine or even someone who like their gadgets. So if you enjoy your wines but prefer them a little cooler or left the bottle sitting on the bench a bit too long then the Ravi Instant Wine Chiller is for you.

Top 5 Instant Wine Chillers

During my quest for instantly chilled wine without having to remember to, or find space to put wine in my refrigerator I did quite a lot of research. Yes, this was time consuming but I wanted to make sure I was buying the right product the first time. I found exactly what I was looking for but while researching I found some other great instant wine chiller products that deserve a mention as well. I thought I would summarize the information I found so if you are looking for the right wine chiller for yourself this might help you out.

These are the Top 5 Instant Wine Chillers:

1. Ravi Instant Wine Chiller

Ravi Wine Chiller

This is the product that I bought. The Ravi Wine Chiller chills wine instantly as you pour it into your glass. It works freezing the unit for 6 hours then placing it onto your wine bottle and the wine chills as it flows through the device and into your glass.

Read my full review of the Ravi Instant Wine Chiller here.

Pros:

  • Works Instantly!
  •  The device is compact so doesn’t take up a lot of room in your freezer.
  • Completely portable.
  • Will continue to chill wine for 90 minutes once out of the freezer.
  • Able to be used for red wine, white wine as well as spirits.
  • Easy to clean as just needs to be rinsed with water.
  • Perfectly chills red wines and spirits.

Cons:

  • Would be good if it came with a holder to catch drips between pouring.
  • Some people find it difficult to use. I don’t so I’m not sure why.
  • I would use this on pre-chilled white wines or else you need to pour VERY slowly.

2. blinQ QWC014 Wine Chiller

blinQ QWC014 Wine Chiller

This came a close second for me. The blinQ Wine Chiller operates using 3 pre-frozen “chill cells” which you insert into the machine with your bottle of wine and some water. You then set the 15 minute auto-off timer and supposedly within 7 minutes you should be able to enjoy some chilled wine. It has a 12 month limited warranty on parts only.

Pros:

  • Fast wine chilling.
  • The option of using AC power or battery so you can move it from room to room as necessary.
  • Stylish and functional stainless steel rim and scratch resistant polymer body with satin finish.
  • The chill cells eliminate the need to use large amounts of ice unlike other wine chillers.
  • Is able to hold larger sized bottles and champagne bottles.
  • The 15 minute auto-off timer means no more worries about exploding bottles that were forgotten in the freezer.

Cons:

  • Although its really fast at chilling wine it’s still not instant like the Ravi.
  • Requires 7 AA batteries when using it portably. These are not included.
  • Quite big and bulky so although you can use this device portably it is probably not convenient to take to a BBQ or picnic.
  • The “chill cells” are in a rigid semi-circular shape which can awkward to store in your freezer especially if you don’t have a lot of space.

3.Vacu Vin Prestige Stainless-Steel Tabletop Wine Cooler

The Vacu Vin Prestige Wine Cooler works by unscrewing the base and inserting a pre-frozen ice pack inside the

stainless steel container. Then the rapid cooling element should be able to chill your wine in approximately 5 minutes.

Pros:

  • No need for ice (other than the ice pack), water or electricity.
  • The ice pack flattens down so will take up minimal space in your freezer.
  • Should keep your wine chilled for approximately 4 hours.

Cons:

  • Most reviewers stated that it works extremely well but only on pre-chilled bottles of wine.
  • The ice packs will only chill long enough for one bottle of wine. Although you can buy extra ice pack inserts for around $9.99.
  • Some reviewers found that it was too small to fit larger bottles or some champagne bottles.
  • Ice packs need to be chilled 6 hours ahead of time. So not good for forgetful people like me.

4.Cooper Cooler Rapid Beverage Chiller

Cooper Cooler Rapid Beverage Chiller

The Cooper Cooler Rapid Beverage Chiller is one of a range of Cooper Cooler Chillers. This chiller is my favourite from their range as it can be used to chill beer cans or soda as well which is pretty handy!  The Cooper Cooler Rapid Beverage Chiller operates as an ice bath style chiller. Ice and water is added to the device and the ice water will wash over the bottle to chill the contents. It comes with a 1 year warranty but that does not include the adaptor.

Pros:

  • Will chill a beer or soda can in 1 minute or a bottle of wine in approximately 6 to 12 minutes.
  • Stylish brushed chrome finish.
  • Easy-to-use touch buttons and display which will alert you to add ice and allow you to set extra chill time.
  • Has the option to turn the rotation off to protect delicate or carbonated beverages.
  • Plugs into any 120v outlet.
  • Automatically turns off when done.

Cons:

  • Will not fit larger bottles of wine or champagne.
  • Requires 1 to 2 trays of ice and will need to be refilled after every chill cycle. This wouldn’t be very convenient when chilling cans especially.
  • Can splash a lot of water around will chilling so you need to have a towel handy.
  • Needs to be completely cleaned out and dried immediately after every chill cycle.
  • Will destroy the label on your bottle.

5.Waring Pro PC50 Cordless Wine Chiller

Waring Pro PC50 Cordless Wine Chiller

I think this is the best “ice bath” style wine chiller I found although it doesn’t really chill quickly enough for me. The Waring Pro PC50 Cordless Wine Chiller uses a combination of ice, water and rotation to wash your wine bottle to chill it. Comes with a 1 year limited warranty.

Pros:

  • Able to be used with a cord or cordless and comes with a rechargable battery pack.
  • Can be taken on a picnic as long as you take ice with you also.
  • Backlit LED display counts down time till bottle chilled.
  • Comes with 2 different holder baskets for different bottle sizes.

Cons:

  • Takes 15 to 20 minutes to chill a bottle. This might not be a problem for most people but I was looking for something more “instant” or at least quicker.
  • Needs crushed or very small chunks of ice to work.
  • Requires approximately 6 cups of ice.
  • Some reviewers reported that it doesn’t fit bigger bottles of wine even with the large holder basket.

I hope this information has helped you make a decision on the best Wine Chiller for you.
